Q. There is so much competition in the knitwear world, why do you think White + Warren
cashmere has developed such a loyal fan base? A. We never cut any corners in our process, and our clients recognize the quality and attention to detail. We love them for their loyalty!
Q. We’ve noticed that all cashmere doesn’t feel the same. What makes WW so soft?
A. The softness of our cashmere begins with the cashmere goats. The shearing is completed by hand and we only use the inner, most valuable second layer of cashmere from the underbelly. The dying process is completed with extreme care, otherwise the fibers can harden. The washing process is a critical step in our production process. A special soap removes any oil in the yarn, and a second rinse is finished with temperature controlled water to “soften” the cashmere so that it has the right hand feel, the perfect texture and softness.
Q. What were you inspired by this season?
A. The design team fused organic elements with artistry to create a Fall 15 collection that is both complex in design and fuss free in wear. 3D textured knits come to life with chevron ribbing, raised stitching, and collage overlays. Tweeds add another dimension to the organic feel of the line.
Q. What are the new shapes?
A. Long and lean silhouettes give a nod to the seventies and co-mingle with sweaters that play with volume. Overlapped side seams and high side slits add movement and elongate the body.
Q. What about the color? There are so many colors and some of the yarn looks almost three dimensional, why is that?
A. Design was particularly influenced by the Swedish artist and sculptor Hilda Hellstrom this season, and the way that she works with organic sedimentation to create something completely modern. Colors such as juniper, and dark night have a rich, stone like feeling to them. The depth of color is achieved through the marling, or twisting together of different shades in order create a flat surface that appears textured. Other color inspirations this season are offbeat pairings of neons with woodsy greys and mossy greens.
Q. If I only get one thing this season from White+Warren what would it be?
A. The travel wrap is hands down the most coveted item on the line, and it’s the piece that will keep you warm in the winter and covered inside those air conditioned offices in the summer. It’s a shawl, a shrug, a snood, a scarf and a travel blanket. The cashmere is knitted in a 7 gauge, 2 ply knit with a loose jersey stitch, which helps with the fluffiness and allows you to fold, wrap and twist your wrap any way you want without risk of pilling. It has a self-cast stitch along the width, and half Milano stitch edge length wise which keeps the borders from rolling. There are a lot of imitators on the travel wrap, but there is a reason that once you have a White+Warren travel wrap, you won’t be able to live without it
