Long gone are the days when women were expected to wear skirts and dresses whenever we left our homes. We live in a modern, post-Title IX world in which we love to celebrate our sporty sides, be it in the gym or on the runway. So, we are thrilled to present one of the hottest trends for Spring 2014…
1. IRO.JEANS NONA SWEATER. Distressing adds a worn and vintage feel to a classic sweatshirt body.
2. J BRAND STOCKING JEANS. The look of a jean with the feel of your favorite hosiery. So comfortable for the girl on the go, and they won’t lose their shape!
3. BAILEY44 ANATOMICALLY CORRECT TOP. Classic sporty stripes get a fashion-forward splash of girly pink.
4. DAVID LERNER BASIC BLACK LEGGINGS. Perfectly opaque. Wear them to the gym…and all throughout the day.
5. MASON BY MICHELLE MASON JUMPSUIT. A sporty twist on the maxi dress. Dress it up with heels for the cool girl’s evening look.
6. IRO AMIYA JACKET. The textured jacket turns sporty with mesh inserts on sides and sleeves.
7. JOIE MARINER PANTS. The track pant redefined…and refined!
8. REBECCA TAYLOR STRIPED CASHMERE SWEATER. The sportiness of stripes take on the luxury of cashmere.
9. J BRAND RAIL SKINNY JEANS. A white wash adds a crisp element to the classic blue jean.
We have always loved Rebecca Taylor for her fun, flirty, girly-girl styling, but, for Spring 2014, we are pleased to celebrate her evolution into a slightly sportier, cooler look. While she still celebrates our femininity with her fit-and-flare dresses and soft florals, we are excited to see her introduce some abstract animal prints, stripes, and casual knits to strike the perfect balance with the Rouge Girl’s lifestyle…
“‘There are enough ugly things in life for us not to add to them,’ Pierre-Auguste Renoir once said. After watching a film about the artist this summer, Rebecca Taylor was moved by those words. ‘I thought it was such a lovely sentiment,” she said backstage before her Spring show. “So I wanted to do something modern, fresh, and beautiful. Taylor is known for her ultra-feminine wares, and at times she stayed the course, offering crystal embellishments…flippy little dresses, and fields of floral prints inspired by pressed flowers. ‘I really love a floral, but I think it’s important to present it in a modern way,’ she said. Supplementing Taylor’s girlish signatures was a new sporty coolness…Taylor’s Spring collection felt youthful, light, and embraced the ‘fresh beauty’ she aimed to create.”

Paris is the fashion capital of the world, so there is no better place to travel to find the latest and greatest in contemporary collections. This season, we are pleased to bring a bit of Parisian Chic home to Rouge as we introduce Fine Collection…
Launched in 2010, FINE COLLECTION creates modern collections. Their Parisian design studio works to enhance the nobility and softness of this exceptional material across pure and comfortable pieces. Presented in a palette of various colors, the brand’s clothing display a simple elegance inspired by Parisian allure. They slide easily into a female wardrobe and bring a touch of optimism.
At the start of the adventure: Ugo Bensoussan. Collector of contemporary art, he takes inspiration from the pretty things surrounding him, allowing him to create timeless yet creative fashion…
In an even more exciting twist, to add New York City edge to Fine Collection’s Parisian cool, Fine Collection has launched a 2014 collaboration with Leandra Medine…aka the infamous Man Repeller…
New Yorker Leandra Medine, founder of the blog The Man Repeller, has become FINE COLLECTION’s muse for one year.
Launching her blog in 2009, Leandra Medine has injected a breath of fresh air into the international blogosphere. Her style and humor unanimously delight. Today, the blogger unites thousands of readers and has just published her book. Her enthusiasm, coolness and natural elegance have seduced FINE COLLECTION, who searched for an atypical figure with a real sense of style for their new campaign:
“We chose Leandra as our muse because she shows off a very personal style that is not inscribed in ephemeral fashion. Her chic allure and spontaneity are in perfect harmony with our designs. Moreover, we love her taste for derision while speaking of clothing. It is intelligent and light at the same time. Her blog inspires good humor,” explains Ugo Bensoussan, founder of FINE COLLECTION.
As for Leandra, she identified with the FINE spirit right away:“The FINE COLLECTION clothes are timeless, easy to wear. I saw the brand’s sweaters and right away I liked their quality. I wanted to wear them immediately. These are clothes with a real sense of fashion, but that can speak to all women.”
The collaboration between the French brand and the young New Yorker was obvious…Shot in Paris, the campaign is joyful and spontaneous. Leandra’s natural energy fed each photo. The young woman, furthermore, chose the pieces that she wished to wear, and imagined the styling of each outfit.
This fashion adventure will continue next winter…
For now, FINE COLLECTION’s Spring 2014 line has arrived at Rouge, lending Parisian style to Princeton fashionista…
Feminine edge represents the holy grail in fashion, but finding the perfect combination of girly, sexy, and chic is no easy feat. Thus, we are pleased to introduce mason by michelle mason…
mason by michelle mason is often defined by minimal lines with a no frills approach. Although mason often employs various opposing elements such as feminine vs. masculine, or provocative vs. sophistication, the main emphasis is always on the fit, quality of the materials used, and workmanship. Numerous modern details are often prevalent to lend the collection its sense of individuality and relevance, but the importance of keeping each piece timeless is always a goal to mason.
The mason SS14 collection explores neo-modernism into sophisticated dressing. This direction has become a favorite of the design team, as it is readily translated from its architectural roots into clean lines and greater simplicity of garments. To avoid a too-direct interpretation of this expression, lots of feminine details are used throughout. Delicate fabrications such as lace and silks are used to balance the sharpened silhouettes and metallic.
michelle mason began her foray into fine arts, then fashion, at Cal State University Long Beach. In the early 90s, she was offered a design assistant position with Australian American fashion designer Richard Tyler, where she learned many skills pertaining to classic tailoring and fit. Mason then traveled to the UK during the British Fashion boom of the mid 90s, where she worked as a fashion model and surveyed the behind the scenes arena of European fashion for two years. Deeply inspired and influenced by the European sensibility of fashion, she returned to LA and began a small shoe collection. An eponymous RTW collection soon followed with equal success.
In 2001, her current contemporary collection was conceived. Almost a decade later, “mason by michelle mason” has developed a loyal and quietly steady following among trendsetters of all ages, including celebrities, stylists, and individualistic women alike.
Our first shipment of mason by michelle mason has just arrived at Rouge…
All the leaves are brown and the sky is grey
for a walk on a winters day
I’d be safe and warm if I was in L.A.
California dreaming on such a winters day
–The Mamas and The Papas
OK, Winter. We get the hint. You’re here to stay—at least for the foreseeable future. But, that doesn’t mean we can’t dream…And, so dream we will. We’ll dream of beach vacations. We’ll dream of Spring. And, of course, we’ll dream of Spring fashion…
Created by husband and wife team Jamie and Dana Finegold, Tart Collections is all about creating a timeless collection that shows off a woman’s natural radiance and confidence. The college-sweethearts first conceived of their sportswear line while attending UC Santa Barbara. Jamie, a beach volleyball fanatic, created his own line of bright volleyball gear inspired by the neon-colored surf wear popular in the late 80’s, and sold his designs around campus. During his junior year he met Dana who quickly jumped on board and, as an accounting major, began managing the money of this small business. In 1996, the couple launched JD Fine and Company which was a fast success. Tart Collections, its contemporary women’s sportswear line, was quick to follow and has become a favorite among celebrities like Katy Perry, Kourtney Kardashian, and Minka Kelly.
At Rouge, we love how effortlessly stylish Tart makes us feel. With sexy silhouettes in jersey fabrications, we almost feel like we are cheating—it just shouldn’t be so easy to feel so good! All we need to do is slip on a Tart dress or jumpsuit, and we are instantly transported to San Diego, Santorini, or Saint Tropez…even if we are only dreaming…
Hot off the runway, high style has arrived at Rouge. The Robert Rodriguez Spring 2014 Collection is chic, edgy, and fashion forward…
“Robert Rodriguez is celebrating the tenth anniversary of his namesake collection with lots of newness: a new studio (done in whitewashed brick and featuring a zigzag light installation), a new logo (the already minimalist font has been pared down even more), and a new direction for the collection. “It’s a total revamp,” said the designer at his bright new space in New York’s Meatpacking District...Spring’s lineup still has the sporty-meets-sexy elements of the past, but there’s a new edge of refinement. (Gone is the “cheesy L.A.” element that plagues so many West Coast designers—maybe that’s because Rodriguez splits his time between the two cities, and this time around New York won out.)Everything is black and white, with just the occasional element of powder blue or cream. With that strict palette comes attention to fabrication and proportion… Rodriguez really likes to use bonded fabric—and he bonded the seams on nearly every piece to give them a super-clean edge. It’s a technique that works well with his new vision for the brand. So far, so good.”

Over the past few years, we have seen a major resurgence in fashion denim, and J Brand has led the charge. Beginning with the release of their skinny jean in the vibrant red Lipstick shade, J Brand has revitalized the classic blue jean in trendsetting style with their unexpected colors and patterns. Their latest innovation? Texture. Introducing the new, limited edition abstract zebra jacquard print from J Brand…
More than just a print, this jacquard pattern is actually woven into the fabric. This weaving technique elevates this jean to artisan status. Due to the special nature of this style, J Brand produced less than 500 pairs and only sold them to select stores. J Brand has sold out completely, and these jeans are not being reproduced, so there is no opportunity to reorder.
Bottom line? Pop into Rouge and get them while they last!
This week’s crazy winter weather has bestowed upon us all the “joys” of ice, snow, and chapped lips. Unfortunately, we can’t help you navigate those slippery roads or dig out that foot of snow blocking your car in, but we can definitely take care of that lip problem for you! The combination of cold temperatures, gusty winds, and dry, heated homes leaves our lips craving moisture. The solution? These three products will each work wonders on their own, but in combination, they will heal, smooth, and shine your lips, leaving them kissably soft for even the most blustery winter romance…
